Description
The main function of this position is to identify, rate and research prospects and donors for contributions to Robin Hood, and to ensure that the organization targets the best prospects and donors needed to reach its annual fundraising goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify, investigate, organize and analyze information from a variety of sources to determine a prospect’s financial capacity and philanthropic interests, and evaluate their potential interest in Robin Hood.
  • Synthesize research into readable and clear documents, translating complex business concepts into understandable analysis.
  • Rate and qualify current and potential donors according to established methodologies, following team standards for analytical depth and rigor.
  • Contribute to the development of rating methodologies for key industry sectors, adjusting and adapting as market climates dictate.
  • Populate and maintain donor information in Raiser’s Edge for assigned prospects, including ratings, income estimates, wealth assessments, demonstrated philanthropy, relationships, current contact information, executive changes, business titles, completed research reports, relevant news articles, etc.
  • Produce appropriate level additional research on current and prospective donors, including prospect qualifications, wealth analysis, prospect thumbnails, and occasionally, in-depth profiles.
  • With the Senior Manager, Development Operations, devise strategies to identify and rate new prospects to support Robin Hood in strategic expansion of its donor base.

Requirements
Position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of research and analysis in the not-for-profit or private sector.

  • Ability to review, process and synthesize large volumes of data in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Thorough understanding of the financial sector, with an emphasis on Hedge Funds and Investment Banking.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience building models, tables and databases in Excel.
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills with the ability to initiate and apply create solutions.
  • Must possess tact, good ethical judgment and work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Thorough knowledge of prospect research techniques and an understanding of philanthropy in New York City are essential.
